Is Green Technology the path for the future?

When talking about Innovation and Technology, we cannot neglect to mention Green Technology. In a period when there is more and more talk of environmental issues such as the depletion of natural resources and ways to save energy, Green Technology is becoming increasingly more important, especially to better understand the technological innovations that today can contribute to helping the environment.

Green Technology refers to all those innovations and technologies that do not cause harm to the environment and that are designed to preserve the earth’s natural resources.

The main goal is to find ways to create new technologies that do not endanger or reduce our resources. Green Technology also allows reducing pollution and improving the environment.

One of the examples that one usually makes when talking about Green Technology is the “solar cell” (also called a photovoltaic cell), or the electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by photovoltaic effect. The production of electrical energy from solar energy therefore means less consumption of fossil fuels and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Another example of green innovation is the reusable bottle, which everyone can identify with. The reduction of plastic waste is another way to protect the environment.

2016 was a great year for developments in Green Technology. Just think of the innovations presented at the last CES of Las Vegas, such as 3D printers that print using lightweight alternative materials. Of course, these devices are still too expensive for the mass market, but prices are expected to decline. Drones have recently exploded in popularity. They can be used for multiple purposes, such as monitoring the facilities of companies, which brings real savings in energy resources, and they can also be used in the agricultural sector. But Green Technology is also “green buildings”, i.e. building homes and buildings with the use of sustainable and energy-efficient materials. This phenomenon is becoming more and more common in our country.

To give some details, British Telecom recently published a report highlighting the central role technology and innovation could play in combating pollution. The report shows how the continuous development of technologies will lead to a reduction in EU carbon emissions of over 1.5 Gt of CO2 in 2030. This means that research in this direction is a driving force for creating and achieving increasingly more significant savings in energy and emissions. This process is facilitated by smart manufacturing, smart building and smart energy. These phenomena and trends are revolutionising industries, thanks to sensors, connected devices, robotics and 3D printing; the building industry with the use of sensors and fibre optic infrastructures; and energy management, once again with the use of sensors, as well as green energy and analytics software.

The report also shows that the ICT sector could generate new revenue in Europe of about €678 billion and cost savings of €643 billion. The majority of these gains will come from an improvement in the energy efficiency of factories, buildings and plants to create and distribute energy. In short, this is the path to take and the advantages, including economic advantages, are evident. There is no turning back.

Zucchetti Centro Sistemi has also been very concerned with these issues, i.e. environmental protection, energy saving, traceability, digitalisation and health. In fact, it recently opened a new Innovative Solutions business unit, which shows how the combination of technology and nature is crucial to innovate, improve and continue to grow.

Zucchetti Centro Sistemi launches itself in the solar energy industry with ZCS Azzurro, a product that brings together “computer” and “smart” intelligence and the most advanced electronic technology to give life to a new concept of photovoltaic inverters. ZCS Azzurro will be distributed both in Italy and abroad through a distribution network made up of specialists in the field. For more information, please visit this page.
